“Show-Me” Your Blue and Mulberry

July 26 – 29, 2012

The next 25 years of our beloved club’s history begins with our 2012 convention in the beautiful Ozark mountain country surrounding Springfield and Branson, Missouri. What better way to begin the next 25 years of our glorious club than by treating ourselves to a vacation and convention all rolled into one?

Springfield, Missouri, known as “Queen City of the Ozarks,” has much to offer its visitors. There is a nice zoo for an easy stroll or just outside the city, you can take a driving tour through Wilson’s Creek Historic Battlefield that allows you to guide yourself through a historic Missouri battle from the Civil War. Maybe you love sports and the outdoors. Springfield has just the attractions for you. It is the baseball home of the Springfield Cardinals, the Double A team for the St. Louis Cardinals, and the stadium is within walking distance of University Plaza Hotel. If you are an out doors man, don’t miss the world headquarters of Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. With over 300,000 square feet of space, it boasts waterfalls, aquariums, exhibits and more. If you are still looking for something “outside the box,” you can enjoy a relaxing ride through America’s only drive-thru cave, Fantastic Caverns. Springfield is a great place to visit!

Just 30 minutes down the road is wonderful Branson, Missouri, the live music capital of the world. You can see a variety of entertainment options including acts that range from the Oak Ridge Boys to Andy Williams to the Acrobats of China and wonderful magic shows. You can enjoy a chilling tour of the Titanic Museum that offers over 400 artifacts. And everyone loves to spend a couple of days at Silver Dollar City. It’s an old west town where you’ll step back in time. In the 1880’s craft village there are artisans that include broom makers, silversmiths, stained glass artists, candy makers, wood carvers and more. And as if that weren’t enough, there are over 40 live shows each day at Silver Dollar City with a dozen restaurants sprinkled along the way where you can enjoy delicious home-style meals. Branson Tourism has worked with the club to provide a discounted two-day vacation package for FBICC member that includes hotel accommodations and tickets to some of the area’s most popular attractions.

Don’t let all this fun wear you out because there is a great convention in store for you. You won’t want to miss the day trip on Thursday, July 26, to College of the Ozarks. It’s an all-day stop at this very unique campus nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. College of the Ozarks, known as “Hard Work U,” does not charge tuition and every student can graduate without debt. The college boasts such notable speakers as former President George W. Bush, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, General Norman Schwarzkopf and Lady Margaret Thatcher. The beautiful campus includes an honest-to-goodness grist mill where flour is still ground daily and packaged for sale. Besides the grist mill, there is a glorious three-story museum that has something for everyone including a doll collection, native American Indian artifacts and the original “Beverly Hillbillies” jalopy that was featured in the television series. We’re going to have a relaxing and fun time!

The convention will be hosted at the University Plaza Hotel & Convention Centerin Springfield, Missouri. A delicious complimentary breakfast awaits useach morning before heading down the hall to our meeting rooms. All but one of the meeting rooms are on one hallway on the ground level so there is easy access and plenty of time to get to the next event or to take a break. Since Missouri is known as the “Show Me” state, you will find numerous “Show Me” events for everyone…… “Show Me” Your Crossover Collection, “Show Me” the piece that started your collection, “Show Me” Your Alcock and “Show Me” your Rare and Unusual flow blue and mulberry, to name only a few. With knowledgeable guest speakers, a terrific destination, great food and an affordable hotel, we invite you to come for a convention and stay for a vacation!
